Government and Stakeholder Relations Consultant

Job Description


Reporting to the Director, Strategic Communications & Public Affairs, the Government and Stakeholder Relations Consultant is responsible for planning and executing government and business relations activities and initiatives to support the Regional Chair, Members of Council, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and Corporate Leadership Team (CLT). The Consultant will partner with all levels of Government (international federal, provincial & municipal), along with other public and private sector organizations to develop positive intergovernmental relations and raise the profile of the Region and the broader Niagara community. 


 Responsibilities 

 Advocacy and Coordination: Contribute to and execute the Region's advocacy strategy and programs aimed at governments (international, federal, provincial & municipal), other municipal and regional partners and key stakeholders. 

 Research & Analysis: Monitor and analyze trends and issues that are intergovernmental or inter-municipal in nature and are of interest to the Region, the broader Niagara community, and/or key external stakeholders such as the business community, education and health sectors. 

 Relationship Support & Development: Coordinate and facilitate relationships and partnerships with other orders of government, municipal organizations and key external stakeholders. 

 Reporting: Prepare briefing and background/research materials on complex intergovernmental initiatives, issues and projects. 


 
Qualifications


 Education/Knowledge 

 Post-secondary degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Business or related field of study. 

 5 years of progressive experience in government, business & public relations, with a proven track record of advocacy success. 

 Establishing and maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, with other levels of government and key stakeholders (e.g. AMO and FCM). 

 Experience interacting with, providing advice and guidance to and meeting facilitation for elected officials, senior and professional audiences. 

 Project management experience of similar size and scope preferred
