Strategies for a successful summer

Who doesn’t love summer? The warm weather, the chirping birds, and if you’re able to swing it, a chance to get away to new places or old favorites to refuel, take yourself out of the day-to-day routine and rejuvenate!

But taking time off often means having to work twice as hard before and after your vacation to keep things moving forward.  The mercury may be rising but that doesn’t mean your workload is falling, and with nights and weekends filling up before you know it, it’s easy to run out free time.

So, what’s a professional communicator to do with so much to get done but so little time? Well, like everything else we do in our profession, we have to be very strategic with our planning to achieve success!

Fortunately, we still have a few weeks left before the leaves start to change, so even if you only happen to have a few hours left in your calendar, consider spending that time wisely by exploring the many resources the new CPRS.ca has to offer. It’s a great way to prepare for September’s Professional Development month, which begins another incredible year of CPRS programming.

With that in mind, make sure to take advantage of the following features on the new CPRS website to really set yourself up for success this year:
  • The Bill Rees Learning Centre: CPRS’ new professional development and learning centre offers webinars, white papers and everything in between for you to learn and grow this summer. It’s dedicated to the memory of Bill Rees, APR, FCPRS(H) LM, who spent his career helping others advance, so in honour of him, please take some time and take advantage of these resources this month.
  • CPRS Connect: If you’re looking to grow your networks and exchange ideas, don’t forget about CPRS Connect, your new interactive member-only discussion forum. I invite you all to log in today, complete your profiles and join or start a discussion about a topic that is affecting your career. Because, who knows, another member might just have the answers you’re looking for!
  • Job and event pages: Our Job and Event pages are better than ever and can now be searched by location and experience level.  That means it’s easier than ever to find opportunities across the country that match your interests and skill set. Check these pages regularly to be the first to know when a new posting appears.
Here’s hoping you enjoy the remaining weeks of summer and  build in a few hours of professional development.

When you look back on this time and review your achievements for the year, you’ll be really glad you did.

I look forward to reconnecting this fall.
