With 50+ years of experience CMH has evolved into North America’s largest Heli-Skiing and guided-adventure company, operating 12 lodges in the winter and 3 in the summer throughout BC, Canada. Our central office is located in Banff, Alberta.

PR MANAGER

CMH’S PR Manager is responsible for evolving and executing a global public relations strategy for both Heli-Skiing and Summer Adventures experiences. With a focus on the North American market, your role is to create opportunities for earned media to help further define the CMH brand story with the goal of driving qualified leads, community engagement, and sales.

You will do this by developing and fostering relationships with journalists, attending industry conferences and events, analyzing and reporting on media coverage and keeping up to date with industry trends, and the staff and guest stories that highlight them.

Working across multiple departments within the organization both in the field and at the head office in Banff, you will organize media visits, facilitate interviews, and gather stories to successfully pitch relevant press.

This role requires a combination marketing and publishing mindset, with the most important aspect being to think guest first. In essence, you are part of the corporate storytelling engine that must be empathetic toward the dreams, goals and pain points of our guests.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations or related communications field.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of public relations/communications experience
  • Ski industry or luxury travel experience preferred
  • Proven effective marketing communicator
  • Extensive copywriting and copy editing

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proven editorial skills. Outstanding command of the English (or primary customer) language.
  • Self-starter who is ready to dive in right away and start pitching
  • Training as a print or broadcast journalist and has a “nose” for the story.
  • Training in how to tell a story using words, images, or audio, and an understanding of how to create content that draws an audience.
  • The ability to partner with and inspire all content creators (Area teams, external writers and Banff staff) to achieve CMH’s mission, vision and values.
  • Ability to perform in a collaborative, cross-team capacity. This role requires you to work across functions and departments to bring our experiences to life.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships and trust with influencers, partners, suppliers, tourism offices, DMOs and other relevant entities.
  • Clear articulation of the business case behind the pitch.
  • Project management skills to manage editorial schedules and deadlines within corporate and ongoing campaigns.
  • Manage a wide-range of complex projects all within a defined budget
  • Familiarity with principles of marketing (and the ability to adapt or ignore them as dictated by data).
  • Able to screen out sales pitches and look for the relevant brand and customer story.
  • Excellent negotiator and mediator with the ability to act decisively under pressure.
  • Incredible people skills.
  • A willingness to embrace change and to adapt strategies on the fly.
  • Familiarity with competitors' products, marketplace trends and identifying products that fit into the overall brands' positioning and direction in the marketplace.
  • Comfortable with acting as the company's spokesperson and advocate via media appearances, interviews, sales calls, trade shows, etc.
  • Speak and present both internally and externally to promote the CMH story.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with the ski industry and/or luxury travel market
  • An understanding of data and how to use it to enhance media stories

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

OFFICE ENVIRONMENT

  • Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position a minimum of 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other common office equipment on a constant basis.
  • Auditory and visual acuity to operate computers, phones, mobile devices and basic office equipment on a constant basis.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time sitting, bending, reaching, and speaking on a constant basis.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time standing, walking, kneeling, pushing and pulling on an occasional basis.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
