The Canadian Paint and Coatings Association has been in existence since 1913 and is the voice of Canada’s paint and coatings industry including manufacturers, suppliers and distributors. Its members represent more than 260 facilities operating in Canada, own and operate 3000 retail stores, supply another 3,500 stores as well as large Original Equipment Manufacturers and 5000 auto body repair shops. Job Description

CPCA seeks a full-time Communications and Public Affairs Director. Reporting to the President, the candidate will provide communications, public affairs and programming support for the Association. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring the association’s communications plan is implemented and monitored as well as assist in planning the association’s annual conference and other events. The successful candidate will work with the President and staff in providing technical committee support.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the writing, editing, design and production of a broad variety of materials to include, but not limited to: media releases, electronic newsletters, bulletins, regulatory news alerts, brochures, backgrounders, promotion and marketing materials, annual reports, presentations, major correspondence and position papers
  • Maintain updated lists of key media, stakeholder and government contacts, assist the President with contact management and related updates
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of the communications and outreach strategies that are aligned with CPCA’s mission, vision and business plan
  • Delivery of the annual conference and other events including committee and stakeholder consultations
  • Advising on the Association’s involvement in conferences, presentations, and tradeshows related to the Association’s participation
  • Building and maintaining positive working relationships with partner organizations, the Board of Directors, association members and federal & provincial government officials
  • Serve as the initial media contact for the Association
  • Undergraduate degree in communications, public affairs, public relations, journalism or other related programs
  • A minimum of 6 years of communications and/or public affairs work experience
  • Very strong writing and editing skills and able to create original content and critically review the content of others
  • Proven ability to successfully develop and implement communications strategies and plans
  • Proven ability to undertake communications projects including overseeing the work of graphics consultants, web design and maintenance support staff, writers and editorial support
  • Direct experience in the preparation of press releases and backgrounders
  • Leadership skills, problem solving, trouble shooting, excellent written and oral communication skills, research and planning, relationship management and interpersonal communication, exceptional project management skills and the ability to creatively address communication challenges.
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of social media
  • Association experience, knowledge of government workings are assets
  • Bilingualism, an asset
