Reporting to the President and CEO and serving as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Executive Director, Public Relations & Communication will play a vital role in advancing public understanding of and advocacy for Lethbridge College. The Executive Director is responsible to provide strategic direction and leadership in the areas of fundraising, communications, marketing, media and public relations, and government relations.

As a highly visible seasoned public relations and communications executive in a multi-stakeholder organization you have built, managed and mentored teams of creative and innovative professionals. You are adept at the development of business plans, annual budgets and targets, performance goals and objectives, and have earned a reputation for serving internal and external clients with strategic acuity and responsiveness. In addition to serving your clients, you will join the Executive Leadership Team and provide advanced strategic communications counsel.

  • A degree at the postgraduate level majoring in communications, public relations, marketing, business or a related field; an equivalent combination of academic achievement and experience may be considered
  • Significant experience (10-15 years) in a leadership role in public relations, marketing, media or communications, with the most recent 5 years in a management role leading a team in a medium to large, complex organization
  • Successful track record of establishing, fostering, and managing a clear strategic direction in partnership with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated success in creating and achieving business targets
  • Proven track record of taking initiative and actively seeking out new opportunities and partnerships
  • Proven relationship builder; skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with peers, across different levels of the organization and externally
  • Knowledge of how the government operates and how to best work with stakeholders to achieve specified corporate objectives
  • Ability to comfortably liaise with ministers, ministerial staff, advocacy groups and industry associations
  • Seasoned professional with experience in media engagement, message management and effectively utilizing a broad variety of communication channels
  • Ability to “see the big picture” and put forth new ideas to advance an organization
  • Demonstrated experience effectively initiating and executing large-scale projects and marketing and communications campaigns aimed at various target audiences
  • Solid understanding of brand management that includes proven experience developing a strategic brand through to its implementation
  • Demonstrated skill in leading, developing and supporting staff through significant organizational change initiatives
