Nature and Scope of Position
Group, a leading and rapidly expanding First Nations advisory firm, seeks an
experienced communications professional to fill the role of Senior Manager,
Communications. This creative,
ethical and results-oriented person must thrive in a fast-paced environment. The ability to balance multiple
priorities is important and superior time management skills are essential. The candidate will be a skilled strategic
communicator and project manager who has displayed an ability and desire to drive
a variety of initiatives forward to a successful result.
At Castlemain, we combine the culture of a
start-up with the experience of seasoned executives. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing Castlemain’s
strategic communications consulting practice, which includes public, government
and stakeholder relations, issues and crisis management, and social media
functions. The individual will
work closely with a broad group of others (clients, co-workers, subcontractors,
etc.) on a daily basis and thus must be an effective and confident public
communicator as well as an experienced team player.
- Managing client files across a variety
of communications activities, including strategic planning, community engagement,
stakeholder relations, branding, website design, and social media.
- Supervising three staff members,
including a project manager, writer and business development professional.
- Oversee and write research documents,
website content, press releases, client communications materials and more,
both for clients as well as Castlemain corporate.
- Working alongside company leadership to
establish and implement a vision and business plan for Castlemain’s
strategic communications practice area, including public, government and
stakeholder relations; community consultation, crisis communications,
social media, and more.
- Engaging the broader First Nations
community in order to identify, market and acquire business.
- Create strategic communications and
creative briefs for clients.
- Managing all Castlemain communications and the firm’s own website,
including social media and the establishment of an online “voice” in the

Bachelor’s degree required. Additional
advanced degree or training in First Peoples, Law, Government, Public Affairs,
Communications or Business highly desirable.
A minimum of six
years of active public relations and strategic communications experience, in
increasingly challenging positions and with demonstrated achievement in all
previous roles, is required to apply for this position. Preference will be
given to candidates who have held management positions within a communications/public
relations agency and to those familiar with the agency business.
In addition, previous experience working with
First Nations communities on strategic communications initiatives is desirable.
Consideration will be given to
those lacking this direct experience, but only if their other skills and
experience suggest a quick ability to understand and effectively communicate
with, and for, First Nations clients.
Excellent command of the English Language.
Outstanding ‘people skills’, reflected in a career path that has
involved steady growth.
Superior analytical and communication skills, including the
ability to research and write a
variety of documentation and online content in areas from public policy to
sales and marketing.
Knowledge of, and extensive experience with MS Word, PowerPoint,
and web related/social media content. Familiarity with Excel. Mac experience is
an asset, including iWork suite and Omni.
This is a full-time position. Given the nature and timing of
activities and responsibilities, evening and weekend work may be required at
