The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada

Manager, Public Affairs

Job Description

Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada

The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) is the voice of Canada’s exploration community, with over 9,000 members who are involved in the exploration for and development of mineral resources. Nationally, the PDAC works to ensure the industry has in place the foundational elements required to sustain the viability of the sector, such as access to financial and human capital and access to land. Ensuring that exploration companies have access to as wide a land base as possible is critical in order to increase the probability of exploration success. Exploration success, in turn, is the first step in ensuring that minerals and metals continue to be made available for transformation into the products that make modern life possible. The PDAC also works to ensure the industry conducts itself according to the highest possible standards with respect to social responsibility, environmental stewardship and health and safety, and is committed to supporting the meaningful and effective participation of Aboriginal and indigenous peoples.

Manager, Public Affairs

The PDAC is now looking for a new Manager, Public Affairs to manage relationships and influence policy with the Federal and Provincial governments, and to effectively carry the PDAC’s message to key stakeholders. Reporting to the Senior Director, Public Affairs & Communications, the new Manager will work to establish a comprehensive government relations and public affairs program that effectively represents PDAC’s members’ interests, and works to ensure a healthy regulatory environment for the exploration industry.

As an ideal candidate, you have passion, energy and hands-on experience in government affairs and, above all, you possess strong political judgment. You understand the government decision-making process, and recognize how to represent issues and interests in a positive, balanced manner. You have experience in advocacy and influencing decision-making and have the ability to develop deep political networks. A strong researcher and writer, skilled at making presentations, you are looking for an opportunity to have an impact on one of Canada’s most important sectors. Travel between Ottawa and Toronto will be required.
